Goals: Welcome to Pre-Calculus! The goal of this course is to teach you the mathematical skills that are needed to pass the End of the Course Test (EOC) and to do exceptionally well in subsequent math courses. The ultimate goal of this course is to build a strong confidence in your mathematical capability. Math III is one of the highest levels of math courses we offer at SCCS. It is a rigorous course and requires lots of studying. My plan for teaching Math III is based on putting theory into practice through a variety of examples and applications. You will be encouraged to be creative and apply critical thinking skills. In this class, failing is not an option. The best way to learn is to be prepared and ready. During this semester we will be using a variety of sources as course materials. We will make use of graphic calculators in all lessons. In this course, daily homework will be assigned. There will also be graded class work, frequent quizzes, and unit exams. Your parents or guardians can help you succeed by encouraging you to complete all assignments and to review notes and practice examples before each quiz or test. You will be able to develop the cognitive skills required to learn this subject by being involved in many hands-on activities. Participating actively in classroom activities will be part of your grade. I encourage you to put forth the effort required to excel in this important subject. My goal is to teach you mathematics; your goal should be to learn it for mastery!
